About NCF - Canada:

Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF) - Canada was founded in 1932 when groups of Christian nursing students and graduates began meeting for prayer and Bible study in nursing residential schools across Canada. In 1942, NCF became part of the ministry of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada.

NCF is a vibrant ministry seeking to bring the transforming love of Jesus Christ to the nursing profession in Canada. There are approximately 268,000 nurses currently in practice across Canada, many of whom espouse Christian faith. However, the stressful realities of the workplace within a secular health care system has resulted in many nurses feeling isolated and alone.

NCF exists to care for nurses! Opportunities are available in many communities across Canada for nurses to meet in small groups to study, fellowship, and pray together. Individual mentoring often takes place also.

Regional and national continuing education events allow nurses, nursing students and nursing faculty to learn how to integrate their Christian worldview with their nursing practice and links are often made with useful resources for further study.

Global partnerships with nurses around the world are encouraged through the Nurses Christian Fellowship International (NCFI).

In the future, it is hoped that NCF will continue to influence nursing from within as Christian nurses demonstrate to fellow colleagues, faculty and students God’s love, grace and ethical values in a hurting world.

Organizational Structure:

Across Canada, there are Regional Chapters organized and managed by a voluntary committee. This committee is responsible for organizing continuing education events and meetings in their region and acting as a resource to nurses seeking small group support or individual mentoring. Often a newsletter, produced several times a year, informs local groups of ongoing activities and mission opportunities.

The National NCF Committee consists of a Chair, Secretary/Treasurer and National Director. This committee meets yearly at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) with two delegates from each region. At the AGM, reports from each region are shared and strategic planning implemented to meet the ongoing needs of nurses across Canada. A report is also given by the Board Representative of Nurses Christian Fellowship International (NCFI), an organization which seeks to support nurses worldwide.

The National Director (vacant) is responsible for providing visionary and strategic leadership to the work of NCF in Canada as part of the National Strategic Ministries of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. She is also appointed to supervise, lead and evaluate NCF staff, oversee administration and fiscal responsibilities of this ministry and secure needed funds for the work of NCF Canada.

Doctrinal Statement:

As a ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, NCF adheres to the following belief statement, core purpose and values.

Belief Statement:

We believe in:
The only true God, the almighty Creator of all things,
existing eternally in three persons –
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – full of love and glory.
The unique divine inspiration,
entire trustworthiness
and authority of the Bible.
The value and dignity of all people:
created in God’s image to live in love and holiness,
but alienated from God and each other because of our sin and guilt,
and justly subject to God’s wrath.
Jesus Christ, fully human and fully divine,
who lived as a perfect example,
who assumed the judgment due sinners by dying in our place,
and who was bodily raised from the dead and ascended as Saviour and Lord.
Justification by God’s grace to all who repent
and put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
The indwelling presence and transforming power of the Holy Spirit,
who gives to all believers a new life and a new calling to obedient service.
The unity of all believers in Jesus Christ,
manifest in worshiping and witnessing churches
making disciples throughout the world.
The victorious reign and future personal return of Jesus Christ,
who will judge all people with justice and mercy,
giving over the unrepentant to eternal condemnation
but receiving the redeemed into eternal life.
To God be glory forever.

How can I become Involved in NCF – Canada?

There are many opportunities for nurses to become involved in NCF Canada. First, this ministry needs your prayers (Monday Night E-mail Prayer Ministry), financial support (Donations) and experience (National Survey).

Secondly, by attending regional and national events, you can become acquainted with those already involved in this organization and also enjoy fellowship, learning and sharing with other nursing colleagues.

Thirdly, volunteer staff are needed to sit on regional committees, participate in the day-to-day activities of this ministry and to assist with facilitating small group gatherings and other regional responsibilities. New people are always welcome. (see for more information and regional/national contacts).

Because NCF Canada is presently in a time of transition, there will be many changes involving the need for new staff, additional volunteers, special project committee and teams over the next several years. It is advisable to keep abreast of these changes by visiting this website often.
